How to get that perfect Accountancy Job
Your CV is your main sales tool to sell yourself to companies. Get it right and the options available to you are endless, get it wrong and the results could be disastrous. New Additions can support you in the production of your CV and our experienced consultants are on hand for advice. By following the points below you will be able to produce a CV which will enhance your employment opportunities.
- Use good quality plain paper with a plain type face in Black. If you are emailing your CV do not use coloured fonts. The easier your CV is to read the more people will read it.
- Try to keep your CV to two pages, three at the most but only if you have to.
- Put your name and contact details at the top of the first page, being able to contact you is important.
- Don't include theoretical personal profiles, use the space wisely to quantify your achievements.
- Put your education in reverse order, starting with your professional qualifications followed by your degree, then your secondary education. Include dates of examinations.
- Your work history should be in reverse chronological order starting with your most recent position first.
- Make sure any gaps in dates are fully explained. Don't allow a potential employer to assume what you were doing (as they may assume the worst!).
- Always use bullet points to describe your duties. This will cut out the requirement for long sentences.
- Avoid jargon and acronyms which are specific to your industry, make sure everyone can understand your CV.
- Always quantify success by giving specific details.
- Prioritise your content so your key selling points are on the front page of your CV.
- If you are emailing your CV always use Microsoft Word as this will be compatible with employers systems. (Avoid MS Works). Always include a bespoke covering letter to go with your CV.
- If you are posting your CV do not use comb bindings or plastic folders/wallets, these make it harder to photocopy your CV.
