How to impress in an interview?
- Good interview technique is all in the research you do beforehand. Know as much as you can about the company before you get there. Know why you want to work for that company.
- Read the job specification/advert and make sure you can answer all the criteria quoting specific quantifiable examples where appropriate.
- Plan your journey and check parking.
- Dress conservatively. Even if you know the company operates an informal dress policy always wear formal business wear for your interview.
- Know your CV content back to front. Be confident with your dates.
- Always offer a firm handshake on arrival.
- Prepare your questions beforehand. For example: Ask about future business plans for the department/company, What are the main challenges you will face in the role.
- Unless prompted do not ask about salary details in the first interview.
- Ask about the follow-up procedure and when you are likely to have feedback or a decision.
If you are:
- Unsuccessful......try to ask for feedback so you can improve for next time.
- Successful......Fantastic but read the offer letter and contract carefully before handing in your notice.
